read morePendant lighting has definitely become a design trend in the lighting homewares category. Gone are the days when you have to settle for off the shelf pendant lights. Here at Creative Cables Australia & New Zealand we give you the opportunity to design your very own pendant light from ceiling rose to bulb and everything in between. We have an unlimited number of pendants for you to create and thus the largest collection of pendant lights in Brisbane. Firstly, lets establish what actually is a pendant lighting? It’s a light that is hung from the ceiling on a cable with a shade or naked bulb on the end. What makes up the pendant is the ceiling rose: the decorative fixture attached to the ceiling. The fabric cable: electrical cloth cord, the lampholder which holds the bulb. The light bulb itself and the shade: which is optional. In addition, electrical components like dimmers, switches and wall and ceiling hooks can be added. ...Did you know that in addition to ceiling pendants they can also have plugs on the end? We call this a snake which is commonly used in lamps however a current trend is to use a wall hook to hang off the wall thus creating a ceiling pendant light look. These plug-in pendants are fantastic for renters or when you need to move the light source.
How do you choose or design a pendant light?
There a few steps to consider when selecting your pendant. Firstly, will the electrical source come from the ceiling or wall? This will determine what you have on the end of your pendant light. A ceiling rose is used for ceilings in which your electrician will install the light. Or a plug is used so you can plug it into an existing power point.
What do you want your pendant do?
Pendant lighting can have a range of functions. Practical, the light must light up an area like a reading or workspace. Decoratively, the main feature is a design focus in your home décor with the added advantage of creating light. Think carefully about what you use the space for. Perhaps you only need additional light for certain functions like needlework or food preparation in the kitchen. Perhaps you need your lighting to create an atmospheric mood like at the dinner table or next to the bed. Fortunately, we can help you design a pendant that is both practical and with design allure. Choose fabric cable to suit your style and measure enough length so it hangs at just the right height. A little bit more is required by your electrician within the roof cavity so always purchase just a little bit more than you think you need. Decide the length of the electrical cable by actually measuring the distance from ceiling to bulb and consider the height from the ground so taller people are not knocking into it! Also have a look at how the pendant looks in relation to the other furniture in the room. At the end of the cable sits the lamp holder. We have such a large range of lampholders that you will be sure to find the ideal match. Some of our lamp holders have switches or pulls on them. This is ideal if you would like the pendant to be turned off at this point. This is particularly helpful on bedside lights where reaching to the power point is awkward. Lampholders also have the ability to hold shades. The ferrule rings are what holds a shade into place so if you are adding a shade later then this is an important decision. If you don’t use rings to hold your shade in place, then it won’t be secure. Finally choosing your shade and light bulb. Shades do just that, they shade! So, if you are not looking for a pendant light that cast light in all directions and instead you would like the light to be directed into a certain area then a shade made of a solid material is needed. Fabric material, silicone or transparent material shades will diffuse your light. Popular in cafes and restaurants are the naked pendants. These are pendants without shade or the use of skeleton shades. This enables the greatest about of light to be illuminated across the space. Just consider choosing a decorative bulb to really make it a design feature! Choosing a light bulb will largely determine what you will be using the pendant light for. XXL bulbs are great for the wow factor, milky globes create a soft ambient feel and decorative filaments are ideal in creating a unique look. We also have a range of LED light bulbs that will ensure the sustainability of your choice. Will the pendant be on a dimmer? Ensure that you are selecting the right bulb for this.
Chandeliers are a multi light system. We specialize in the spider pendants which have multiple pendants hung from a single source. The arrangement of the different spider arms can be unique using decentralizes in different spots or different length of fabric cable. This is an ideal pendant solution for a large space or where multiple sources of light are required over a larger span of space
