E27 is the name of the type of fitting used in lamp holders and light bulbs. It is the screw-in right-handed threaded metal connector which fits into a matching light socket system. It is different to the two radial pin fitting of the bayonet range. E stands for Edison and 27 refers to the 27mm size if the fitting. Thomas Edison invented this system of light bulb and it is probably the most popular and widely used light fitting in the world. What is in a E27 lamp holder kit?
Inside the lamp holder is a black thermoplastic screw fitting which comes in three pieces that fit together: the body, the top and the piece with the metal contact surface. Within this fitting is where the screwed in light bulb meets the power source from the fabric cable copper wires. Over this fitting is the decorative casing which can be made from many different materials. Our ranges include painted, copper, chrome, porcelain, ceramic, metal, silicone, wood, bark, bakelite, milled aluminium, thermoplastic, brass, nickel and bronze finishes. The two-part cable retainer or cable clamp will sit within and above these pieces. The lower piece of the cable clamp will screw into the light fitting and the above piece will hold the case against the fitting while ensuring a neat exit of the fabric cable from the lamp holder.
How do you put a lamp holder kit together?
If you look at the Creative Cables YouTube channel you will see instructional videos on putting these E27 component pieces together. Please note that in Australia & New Zealand a qualified electrician must do this process for you. These videos are for your overall knowledge only. What is needed is electrical tape, a pair of scissors, a pair of pliers and a small flat head screwdriver. Step one is to expose the copper wiring within the chosen fabric cable. After a piece of tape is added around the cable about 25mms from the end, a pair of scissors is used to score the cable over the tape ensuring the copper wire inside are not cut or nicked. The cut casing of insulted cable and fabric covering is then removed. Once this is done the insulated wires that are exposed have 5mm worth of insulation cut off the ends to then have the copper wires exposed. Next the top piece of the cable retainer is slid onto the cable followed by the decorative casing and then the lower pieces of the cable clamp which is already screwed into the light fitting top. The exposed copper wires are then screwed into the lamp fitting piece with the metal contact surface. This is done by wrapping the wire around the screw and then tightening. The body of the light fitting is screwed in and pushing all the pieces together clamped with the cable clamp. This completes to process of putting the lamp holder together. Add a ceiling rose to the other end of the fabric cable and you have a hardwired ready pendant. Add a plug and you have a plug-in pendant or table snake.

Use the natural covering to paint to suit your own colour palette. At the other end of the spectrum is the silicone range.
